With its exclusive location, Marbella has become the reference point for the tourism world, having lost neither its typically Andalusian flavour nor its historical essence. Mountain and sea, tradition and modernity come together in this Mediterranean town to offer the visitor a multi-cultural and cosmopolitan ambience, open to progress and based on conviviality and the welcoming nature of the locals.

The town of Marbella is one of the best-known in the world. Always bathed in light, the town bases its activity on global tourism, through an offer with huge potential: 26 kilometres of beach, mountains, 16 golf courses, luxury hotels, the most beautiful natural setting, 4 marinas including the internationally-renowned Puerto Banús – shopping centres and a buzzing night life.

Services:

Puerto Banús, situated 6 kms. from Marbella, is regarded as one of the most celebrated marinas on the Spanish and European coastline, and owes its name to its developer, Don José Banús. It was officially established in 1968 and accommodates 915 moorings for some of the world´s most luxurious boats. Its famous marina and magnificent selection of internationally-renowned bars, restaurants and shops have made it a place packed with glamour and charm for all its visitors.

It is no coincidence that Marbella has become a reference point for elite tourism: from the beginning of its development as a tourist enclave in the mid-sixties, actors, artists and personalities from every sphere of life have passed through, underlining its elegant and refined image at fiestas and social events.

Marbella is also a paradigm within the hotel industry for its high concentration of five-star hotels and establishments dedicated to the restaurant industry, with nearly 800 of them including every type of cuisine on earth.

Moreover, today, the district of Marbella is host to Spain´s most important commercial offer: a wide-ranging catalogue of international and brand name shops as well as shopping centres of considerable renown have made this town a paradise of distinction and a true shopping delight.

Golf Coast

Undoubtedly among Marbella’s key attractions is having the largest number of golf courses in Spain spread over its 26-kilometre coastline. Among them are the internationally-renowned “Las Brisas” course, which hosted the World Cup of Golf, and Aloha Golf www.clubdegolfaloha.com, where the P.G.A. Andalusian Open was held.

Other celebrated, top-quality courses are:

La Quinta Golf & Country Club www.laquintagolf.com
Santa Clara Golf Club www.santaclara-golf.com
Guadalmina www.guadalminagolf.com
Las Brisas www.lasbrisasgolf.com
Rio Real Golf Club www.rioreal.com

Tradition

In Marbella, too, there is culture and history aplenty, as is evidenced by the magnificent Casco Antiguo or Old Town, with its narrow, white streets and balconies covered with flowers, location of the Plaza de los Naranjos and 16th century Town Hall building; the Ermita de Santiago, the town’s first Christian church, built in the 15th century, and the 16th century Casa del Corregidor.

Very close by is the Iglesia de la Encarnación, construction on which was started in the 17th century. You can also visit the remains of the town walls, which surrounded the Muslim town, as well as the Arabic Castle.

Climate:

Given its geographical situation, Marbella enjoys a special microclimate with mild temperatures throughout the year, an annual average of 18.7 degrees and a sun which shines brightly for twelve months of the year.
This microclimate is due to the confluence in the Marbellan region of a series of geographical factors which make the general climatic  conditions of the Costa del Sol take on a uniqueness which shapes the so-called Marbellan microclimate, these factors being:

  • The longitudinal location of the town in respect of the parallels
  • The character of its coastal inlets
  • The predominant orientation of its land mass towards sunny spots
  • The presence of mountains in the North
  • The closeness of a warm sea and its strategic situation on the route of the south-west winds originating from the Straits of Gibraltar

These factors cause the average annual temperatures to hover around 18ºC.  Summer sees the highest of the year, with an average around 20-25ºC, milder than in the adjacent towns.
In addition, Marbella has no climatological winter because the monthly averages do not fall below 6ºC.
